Behavioural Medicine Student Profiles

Homan Lee
Background: I am a first year Masters student at the Faculty of Physical Education and recreation at the University of Alberta. I also completed my undergraduate degree in psychology there.
Work Experience: At the moment, I am working for Dr. Holt as a research assistant. I also coach a high school swim team on the side. Prior to this I was a lifeguard for the City of Edmonton at one of the busiest recreational pools in the city.
Research: My research interests include but are not limited to coaching as it relate to positive youth development in physical activity and sport, and transitional experiences in youth sports.
Other Interests: When I am not reading in my armchair and sipping coffee (though I’ve been told that it’s more like chugging) I am either busy coaching or swimming. I recently discovered the fun in open-water swimming as swimming laps begin to bore me.

My main academic interests are the determinants of physical activity particularly on biocultural aspects among youth.  My PhD thesis topic is focused on examining the link between biological maturation and physical activity among adolescents in Korea.

Outside of the Sedentary Living Lab., I enjoy spending time at the gym, walking my dog, playing badminton and basketball, as well as swimming and snowboarding.
